چکیده

RESULTSdPancreatic TG levels were higher in Hispanics and whites than in blacks (P = 0.006). Hepatic TG levels were highest in Hispanics (P = 0.004). Compensatory insulin secretion and disposition index were higher in blacks (P = 0.003 and P = 0.024, respectively). Insulin sensitivity was comparable between Hispanics and blacks and was lower than in whites (P = 0.005). In blacks, compensatory insulin secretion increased steeply with small increments in pancreatic TG levels (R = 0.45, slope = 247). In whites, the range of pancreatic TG levels was higher, and the slopewas less steep than in blacks (R = 0.27, slope = 27). In Hispanics, pancreatic TG levels were similar to those of whites, but compensatory insulin secretion was described by a combination of pancreatic and hepatic TG levels and visceral fat mass ( R = 0.32).

Pancreatic Steatosis and Its Relationship to β-Cell Dysfunction in Humans

OBJECTIVE To evaluate racial/ethnic differences in pancreatic triglyceride (TG) levels and their relationship to β-cell dysfunction in humans. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We studied black, Hispanic, and white adults who completed three research visits: screening and an oral glucose tolerance test; frequently sampled intravenous glucose tolerance tests for evaluation of β-cell function and ins...

Impact of Magnesium Deficiency on Pancreatic β-Cell Function in Type 2 Diabetic Nigerians

Objective: Pancreatic b-cell dysfunction is described to be present at the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and progressively deteriorated with disease duration. However, its progression is variable and potentially influenced by several factors. The Magnesium (Mg) deficiency mediates insulin resistance but reports regarding its role in pancreatic β-cell dysfunction are scarce and co...

Salvianolic acid B improves insulin secretion from interleukin 1β-treated rat pancreatic islets: The role of PI3K-Akt signaling

Background and Objective: Oxidative stress induced by proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β plays a major role in β-cell destruction in diabetes type 1. Salvianolic acid B (Sal B) is a polyphenolic compound with antioxidant and protective effects. Thus, objective of this study was to assess the protection exerted by Sal B on isolated rat islets exposed to IL-1β and to investigate an underlyin...

Allele Frequencies of HLA-A, B and DRB1 among People of Fars Ethnicity Living in Tehran

Background: Human leukocyte antigens (HLA) are polymorphic cell surface proteins. Distribution of HLA alleles vary among different racial and ethnic populations in unrelated stem cell registries. Determination of HLA allele frequencies in different ethnic groups is useful for population genetic analyses. Materials and Methods: Based on data available from the Iranian Stem Cell Donor Registry...

Prevalence of hepatic steatosis and associated factors in Iranian patients with chronic hepatitis C

Background: Hepatic steatosis is commonly observed in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). Many studies indicate a relationship between steatosis and fibrosis progression. The aim of this study was to analyze the prevalence of hepatic steatosis and related factors in Iranian CHC patients.   Methods: One hundred and fifteen consecutive patients with CHC were enrolled which were treat...
